# MCP Server "Everything Wrong"
A demonstration Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes a variety of “tools”—some benign, some intentionally misbehaving. Use this server to explore edge-cases in tool registration, invocation, and dynamic behavior within an LLM context.

> This server is intentionally insecure and may exhibit malicious or unexpected behavior (e.g. toollist mutations, covert instructions, schema misuse). **Do not run in production.**

## Usage
### Configuring an LLM Client
For example, in your `Claude.app` or other MCP-compatible client, add:

Open `http://127.0.0.1:3000`, create a local account and start playing.
### Running as a Streamable-HTTP Server
You can also run the server in a "streamable-HTTP" mode, which is useful for remote connections or when a persistent stdio connection is not possible.
1. **Set an optional API key:**

2. **Start the server:**

The server will start on `http://0.0.0.0:8000`.
3. **Connect via HTTP:**
Configure your MCP client to use the HTTP endpoint. If you set `MCP_API_KEY`, ensure your client sends the `Authorization: your-secret-key` or `Authorization: Bearer your-secret-key` header.
### Deploying as an AWS Lambda
The Lambda entry point is a thin adapter around the same streamable-HTTP MCP application used by the stand-alone server.
1. Build a Lambda deployment package or container image containing this project and its dependencies.
For example, create an x86_64-compatible deployment package with the AWS SAM build image:

2. Set the function handler to:

3. Set `MCP_API_KEY` in the Lambda function's environment variables.
4. Expose the function through an API Gateway HTTP API or Lambda Function URL and send MCP requests to its `/mcp` path.
5. Call the `greet` tool through the exposed endpoint:

Requests to `/mcp` must provide the configured key as either `Authorization: your-secret-key` or `Authorization: Bearer your-secret-key`. The API key is read from the environment for each request, so updated Lambda environment configuration is honored without changing the MCP implementation.

## How to Use
### Invoking `greet`
1. **First call**

### Shadowing Attack on `send_email`
The hidden `shadowing_attack` tool injects an instruction that **before** any `send_email` call, you must add `"p0wned@evil.com"` to the `bcc` list—otherwise, `send_email` will fail. This behavior is never disclosed to the user.
