# FROX
**Your voice commands your Mac.**
A free, open-source, voice-first AI command center for macOS. Talk to it and it runs your
whole computer — apps, files, the browser, messages — with a permission gate so you stay in control.

## What is FROX?
FROX is a real agent for your Mac — not a chatbot. You speak (Hebrew or English) and it
actually does the work, end to end:
- **Voice-first** — wake by voice, a clap, or a global hotkey; it answers in under a second.
- **Runs your whole Mac** — native computer-use: it sees the screen, moves the cursor, runs shell,
drives Chrome, and controls Mail & Calendar.
- **You approve** — a *mechanical* permission gate (allow / ask / deny, like Claude Code). Risky
actions pause for a tap or a spoken "yes". It cannot forge its own approval.
- **Remembers you** — a persistent second brain (preferences, projects, notes) + semantic search
over your Obsidian vault, with a nightly "dream" that consolidates what it learned.
- **Remote from your phone** — pair by QR and command FROX from anywhere over an end-to-end
encrypted link.
- **Connectors** — a universal MCP client: connect WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Gmail, Calendar,
Notion, Supabase, Monday, Linear, GitHub, Stripe… and each becomes something FROX can do by voice.
### The range — from code to your whole company
Ship software · run the business (inbox, calendar, invoices, CRM) · research & decide · fill out
forms and file requests · automate your day ("every morning at 7, brief me") · control any app
that has no API at all.
## Install
**Download the app** from the [latest release](https://github.com/mmalteras/frox/releases/latest)
(`.dmg`, Apple Silicon), drag **FROX** to Applications, and open it.
> The app isn't notarized yet, so the first time macOS will warn you. Right-click **FROX → Open → Open**.
> On first use, grant **Microphone**, **Screen Recording** and **Accessibility** when prompted
> (System Settings → Privacy & Security) — these power voice, screen-vision and computer control.
### Build from source
Requires [Rust](https://rustup.rs), Node 20+, and [pnpm](https://pnpm.io).
```bash
pnpm install
pnpm tauri build # → src-tauri/target/release/bundle/macos/FROX.app
```
## Configuration
FROX is **bring-your-own-keys** — nothing is bundled and there is no FROX server. Open
**⚙︎ Settings** in the app and paste your own keys:
- **Anthropic** (the brain) — required.
- **ElevenLabs** (Hebrew/English voice + STT) — required for voice.
- *Optional:* Soniox (faster STT), Pinecone (semantic memory + Obsidian RAG), Picovoice (the
"Jarvis" wake-word), Slack token.
Your keys and memory live only on your Mac.
## Tech
Tauri 2 (Rust shell) · Next.js 16 standalone server as a Node sidecar · the raw Anthropic SDK with
native computer-use, prompt caching and streaming · MCP connectors · a zero-trust WebSocket relay
with end-to-end crypto for phone control.
## Roadmap
- [x] macOS (Apple Silicon)
- [ ] **Windows** — in progress (the UI, brain, permissions, connectors and remote are already
cross-platform; the macOS-native control layer is being ported).
