# 📚 3-in-1 Academic MCP Servers
This repository contains a unified Model Context Protocol (MCP) configuration that seamlessly integrates three powerful academic research servers into a single workspace. This allows AI assistants (like Claude, Roo, or Cursor) to search, fetch, and analyze academic literature from across the web.
## 🚀 The 3 Servers Included
1. **`paper-search-mcp`**: The ultimate search engine. It searches and downloads papers from dozens of platforms including Semantic Scholar, arXiv, CORE, IEEE, PubMed, Crossref, Zenodo, and Unpaywall.
2. **`papermaster`**: A fast, local Python-based MCP server dedicated to fetching and downloading specific literature and managing local academic data.
3. **`scopus-mcp`**: A specialized server for querying the Elsevier Scopus database. It fetches highly accurate abstracts, citing papers, and author profiles. All three are bundled inside this repository!

## 🛠️ Setup & Installation
Follow these steps to get all three servers running in your AI assistant instantly.
### 1. Prerequisites
- **Python 3.10+** installed on your system.
- **`uv` package manager** (installed via `curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh`).
### 2. Configure Your API Keys
To protect your API keys, we use a `.env` file that is intentionally ignored by git.
1. Copy the example environment file:
```bash
cp .env.example .env
```
2. Open `.env` and fill in your keys:
- `SCOPUS_API_KEY` (Required for Scopus)
- `PAPER_SEARCH_MCP_CORE_API_KEY` (Optional but recommended)
- `PAPER_SEARCH_MCP_SEMANTIC_SCHOLAR_API_KEY` (Optional but recommended)
- `PAPER_SEARCH_MCP_IEEE_API_KEY` (Optional for IEEE downloads)
### 3. Generate the Workspace Configuration
Run the setup script to inject your secret API keys into the local MCP configuration:
```bash
python3 build_config.py
```
*This will create a `.roo/mcp.json` file containing your keys securely.*
### 4. Start Using It!
Simply **open this folder** (`mcp-literature-server` / `mcp_config_project`) in VSCode.
If you are using the Roo/Cline extension, it will automatically detect the `.roo/mcp.json` file and boot up all three servers in the background. You can immediately ask your AI:
> *"Find me 5 recent papers on PDDL and LLMs from IEEE and Scopus, and download the most relevant one."*
---
## 🔒 Security Note
- Never commit your `.env` or `.roo/mcp.json` files to Git. The `.gitignore` is already configured to prevent this.
- If you want to modify server parameters (like timeouts or paths), edit `mcp_settings.example.json` and then re-run `build_config.py`.
