# ✈️ Yatra AI Travel Assistant — Multi-Agent POC          **A production-grade multi-agent AI system for corporate travel management** *Inspired by Yatra's real-world DIYA + RECAP products built on Google Cloud* > 🔗 **Live Frontend:** https://huggingface.co/spaces/roger101/yatra-ai-frontend > 🔗 **Live Backend API:** https://yatra-multi-agent-ai-travel-assistant-poc.onrender.com/docs > 📚 **MCP Server:** https://yatra-mcp-server.onrender.com/sse > ⚠️ **Note:** Services are on Render free tier — click the backend and MCP links once to wake them up before using the frontend. --- ## 🎯 What is this? DIYA is a corporate travel assistant that handles the **full trip lifecycle** — from searching flights to submitting expense reports — using 5 specialized AI agents collaborating behind a single chat interface. Built as a proof-of-concept inspired by [Yatra's Google Cloud case study](https://cloud.google.com/customers/yatra), where they built AI-powered booking (DIYA) and expense management (RECAP) products using Gemini on Google Cloud. --- ## 🤖 Agent Architecture ``` User Message (Natural Language) │ ▼ ┌─────────────────────┐ │ Orchestrator │ GPT-4o-mini │ (Intent Router) │ Classifies: booking / policy / └─────────┬───────────┘ expense / disruption / general │ ┌───────┼────────────────────────┐ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ┌────────┐ ┌────────┐ ┌──────────┐ ┌────────────┐ │Booking │ │Policy │ │ Expense │ │Disruption │ │Agent │ │Agent │ │(RECAP) │ │Agent │ │GPT-4o │ │GPT-4o │ │GPT-4o │ │GPT-4o │ │ │ │-mini │ │Vision │ │ │ └────────┘ └────────┘ └──────────┘ └────────────┘ │ │ │ │ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Flights + RAG over OCR + Policy Delay alerts + Hotels + Pinecone Enforcement Rebooking + Booking Citations + Supabase Entitlements Confirm + PDF Persist ``` --- ## ✨ Features ### 🛫 Booking Agent (DIYA) - Natural language flight and hotel search - Company policy enforcement (economy only, fare limits, advance booking) - One-click booking confirmation with PNR generation - Boarding-pass style itinerary cards in **My Trips** tab - Persisted to Supabase Postgres ### 🏛️ Policy Agent (RAG-powered) - Answers company travel policy questions with exact clause citations - **Pinecone vector store** — chunks policy PDF, retrieves relevant sections via cosine similarity - Shows retrieval scores and source sections for full transparency - Approved / Not Approved badges with approval level and suggestion ### 🧾 Expense Agent (RECAP) - **Text logging** — "Ola cab ₹680 from airport today" - **Image OCR** — upload receipt photo, GPT-4o Vision extracts merchant, amount, GST, line items - Reimbursability check against company policy, policy flag detection - Running log in **My Expenses** tab with submit-for-reimbursement button - Persisted to **Supabase Postgres** ### ⚠️ Disruption Agent - Handles flight delays, cancellations, missed connections - Shows entitlements (meal voucher ₹400 for 2hr+ delay) - Suggests and confirms alternative flights - Action items checklist for the traveler --- ## 🔌 MCP Middleware — Model Context Protocol **What is MCP?** MCP (Model Context Protocol) is Anthropic's open standard for connecting AI agents to external tools and data sources. Think of it as **USB-C for AI tools** — one protocol, any integration. The agent only sees tool names and schemas, not implementation details. **How it works in Yatra:** ``` GPT-4o (Booking Agent) │ tool_choice="auto" ▼ MCP Client (httpx) → MCP Server (FastMCP) │ ┌───┼──────────────┬───────────────┐ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ search_ get_weather_ add_trip_to_ notify_ flights alert calendar team_slack ``` **4 MCP Tools registered:** | Tool | What it does | Production Integration | |---|---|---| | `search_flights` | Real-time flight search by route + date | AviationStack / Amadeus API | | `get_weather_alert` | Weather forecast + travel advisories | OpenWeatherMap Forecast API | | `add_trip_to_calendar` | Creates Google Calendar event after booking | Google Calendar API v3 | | `notify_team_slack` | Posts booking update to team Slack channel | Slack Web API | **Why MCP over direct API calls?** | Direct API calls | MCP middleware | |---|---| | Agent code coupled to each API | Agent only knows tool names + schemas | | Adding a new tool = rewrite agent | Adding a tool = one function in MCP server | | Hard to swap mock → production | One env var activates real API | | Each agent reimplements same tools | Tools shared across all agents | --- ## 🚀 Confluent Kafka — Event-Driven Orchestration Synchronous agent calls work for low traffic. At **100K+ users**, they create backpressure. Kafka decouples ingestion from processing. ``` WITHOUT KAFKA (sync): User → FastAPI → Orchestrator → Agent → Response (blocking) WITH KAFKA (async): User → FastAPI → yatra.chat.requests ↓ Orchestrator Consumer ↓ ┌────────────────┼────────────────┐ ↓ ↓ ↓ yatra.booking yatra.policy yatra.expense .events .events .events ↓ ↓ ↓ Booking Policy Expense Consumer Consumer Consumer ↓ yatra.chat.responses → User ``` ### 7 Topics on Confluent Cloud (AWS us-east-2) | Topic | Partitions | Purpose | |---|---|---| | `yatra.chat.requests` | 3 | All incoming user messages | | `yatra.chat.responses` | 3 | Agent responses back to user | | `yatra.booking.events` | 3 | Booking agent task queue | | `yatra.policy.events` | 3 | Policy agent task queue | | `yatra.expense.events` | 3 | Expense agent task queue | | `yatra.disruption.events` | 3 | Disruption agent task queue | | `yatra.dead.letter` | 1 | Failed message recovery (DLQ) | ### Why this matters at scale | Concern | Kafka solution | |---|---| | API rate limits | Queue requests, process at controlled rate | | LLM latency spikes | Non-blocking — user gets `queued` response instantly | | Agent scaling | Each consumer group scales independently | | Failure recovery | Dead letter queue — no lost requests | | Audit trail | Every request persisted, replay-able | ### Topics in Confluent Cloud  ### Message flowing through yatra.chat.requests  --- ## 🏗️ Technical Stack | Layer | Technology | Purpose | |---|---|---| | **LLM** | OpenAI GPT-4o | Booking, expense OCR, disruption | | **LLM** | OpenAI GPT-4o-mini | Routing, policy Q&A | | **Embeddings** | text-embedding-3-small | RAG policy retrieval | | **Backend** | FastAPI + Python 3.11 | Async REST API | | **Frontend** | Next.js 14 + React | Chat UI + dashboards | | **Database** | Supabase (Postgres) | Bookings + expenses persistence | | **Vector DB** | Pinecone (serverless) | Policy document RAG | | **Message Queue** | Confluent Kafka | Event-driven agent orchestration | | **Background Jobs** | Redis + Celery | Async OCR, email notifications | | **Tool Protocol** | FastMCP | MCP server — 4 tools | | **Auth** | JWT + bcrypt | Role-based access control | | **Deployment** | Render + HF Spaces | Backend + frontend | --- ## 🧱 SOLID Principles Applied | Principle | Implementation | |---|---| | **S** — Single Responsibility | `FlightSearcher`, `PolicyEnforcer`, `BookingPersister` — each has one job | | **O** — Open/Closed | `AgentRegistry` — add `HotelAgent` without touching Orchestrator | | **L** — Liskov Substitution | `LocalVectorStore` ↔ `PineconeVectorStore` — same `VectorStore` base contract | | **I** — Interface Segregation | `TextHandler`, `ImageHandler`, `Persistable` — agents use only what they need | | **D** — Dependency Inversion | Inject `LLMClient` + `VectorStore` — `MockLLMClient` for zero-API-call tests | --- ## 📊 Evaluation Results ``` ============================================================ YATRA AI — EVALUATION SUITE ============================================================ 🧑‍⚖️ LLM-as-Judge Hallucination Check [RAG] Loaded policy PDF: 13,749 chars, 8 pages [RAG] Pinecone: 8 vectors upserted ✅ [1.00] Can I book business class for a 4 hour flight? ✅ [1.00] What is the maximum hotel rate in Mumbai? ✅ [1.00] Is alcohol reimbursable? ✅ [1.00] How many days in advance must I book flights? ✅ [1.00] Do I need approval for a Rs.25000 trip?
