# ej_claudecode_setup
A portable kit to take a fresh **Claude Code** install to a real creative-technology dev setup — the prompts, config, MCP servers, and shell hygiene that make building *fast* and *on-brand*.
This is the distilled result of a full setup pass: secrets secured, Python on `uv`, a tuned global `CLAUDE.md`, custom slash-commands + an agent, a clean four-server MCP stack, and safe git/secrets habits.
## What's in the box
```
claude/
CLAUDE.md.template # global context Claude reads every session — customize with your identity
commands/
transcode.md # /transcode — ffmpeg/ImageMagick recipes with sane defaults
figma-to-code.md # /figma-to-code — pull a Figma frame and build it in your stack
agents/
media-engineer.md # batch media pipelines (transcode/composite/format archaeology)
mcp/
mcp-servers.md # Figma + Playwright + Supabase + Vercel — what each does + how to add
shell/
secrets.env.template # keep API keys OUT of your dotfiles (chmod 600, sourced by .zshrc)
gitignore-global # never commit .env / secrets / node_modules / __pycache__ again
docs/
SETUP.md # the full step-by-step, in order
install.sh # optional bootstrap (copies commands/agents, wires gitignore + secrets)
```
## Quick start
```bash
git clone git@github.com:ellemakesthings/ej_claudecode_setup.git
cd ej_claudecode_setup
./install.sh # non-destructive; backs up anything it would overwrite
```
Then read **`docs/SETUP.md`** for the parts that need your input (identity, tokens, MCP OAuth).
## The philosophy
- **Show me the thing.** Anything visual gets rendered/screenshotted, not just described — that's what the Playwright + Figma MCP pair is for.
- **Secrets never touch a dotfile or a commit.** One `chmod 600` file, sourced once; a global gitignore as the backstop.
- **One tool per job.** `uv` for Python, `ffmpeg`/`magick` for media, `gh` for GitHub — reach for the installed tool, not bespoke code.
- **Lean, intentional config.** Four MCP servers you'll actually use. Zero skill clutter.
## Requirements
macOS (Apple Silicon assumed), [Homebrew](https://brew.sh), Node 18+, and [Claude Code](https://claude.com/claude-code). See `docs/SETUP.md` for the toolchain install.

*Generated as a shareable snapshot of a working setup. Customize `CLAUDE.md.template` — it's the highest-leverage file.*
